STED Project

The STED project aims to bring about a socio-economic development of an area through the intervention of Science & Technology. The project envisages matching of the material and the human resources of the district to create new enterprises and employment by usage of Science & Technology processes. It involves identification of opportunities through a detailed scientific survey and exploitation of the opportunities thus identified by the entrepreneurs. The total project life is four years. Currently the STED project is being implemented in 43 districts of the country.

Objectives

The broad objectives of the project are

  • To identify possible resource based projects in the region covering both rural and urban areas.
  • To identify S&T intervention (like technology selection, modification, alteration and dissemination) for exploiting the opportunities by prospective entrepreneurs.
  • To improve working of existing enterprises through S&T intervention to upgrade the technology and modernisation of units.
  • To organise regular enterprise awareness programmes and skill development programmes for creating suitable entrepreneurial environment in the district.
  • To launch at least 200 micro-enterprises in the district during the four years of duration in which at least 50 technology-driven micro-enterprises are to be in technology specific areas as identified by the implementing agency earlier.

    • Identification & counseling of potential entrepreneurs.
    • Training of entrepreneurs.
    • Providing escort services to the potential entrepreneurs.
    • Counseling the existing enterprise for technology upgradation and modernization.

Workshop on "Value Addition in Food Processing for SME's" on 27th Feb.2015 which was participated by 210 candidates.

Finance, Loan etc

  • We have made tie-up with Bank of Maharashtra for financing SME's set up by participants.
  • Special 3 days campaigns are organized with the help of District Industries Centre of Nashik for special scheme of DIC Loan Scheme, Where 10 past participants have got sanction on the spot through this initiative.

Monitoring mechanism of STED, after the unit is set up

  • Monitoring Committee - One monitoring cum guidance committee has been established to guide the participants after the training & they set up units. It consists of DIC GM, Lead Bank Officer, STED Director & Successful Entrepreneur. It takes regular review of the participants, guide & help them on the specific problems they are facing.
  • Follow-up meetings- Regular follow-up meetings are organized to know their issues & guide them individually through brain- storming & linking them with the concerned person.
  • What's App group- Special Whats app group has been formed programme wise where only business related information is being shared.

  • Type of enterprise : Agro based manufacturing unit (Raisins Manufacturing & packaging) - This unit is value addition to the farmers. The grapes which remains with them are being dried to convert them into raisin so thjat farmers are getting better rates.
  • Total cost involved in setting up of unit/ enterprise : 8 Lakh
  • Source of funding (loan/ Self-financed/ credit / other), in case of loan, give details of the bank, sanction date, amount and monthly loan repayment amount - Self Financed
  • Indicate Specific role of STED implementing organization in the launch of unit : STED specifically helped Mr. Bhat for project selection looking at his background. It has also helped him to select good technology where less chemicals are used giving best quality. STED is also helping him out for marketing & networking for better sales.
  • Explain S&T intervention involved & quantify the impact/ value addition for the micro-enterprise : All these help mentioned above & specifica help for getting technology from Sangli (Maharahstra) helped Mr. Bhat for speedy erecting the plant giving better quality than others & thus boosted his sales.

  • Year of start of the enterprise :2014
  • Type of enterprise (service/ manufacturing/ handicraft/ agro products/ other, give detail of product/ service in 2 lines) : This is a artificial teeth manufacturing unit which replaced the broken or damaged natural teeth.
  • Total cost involved in setting up of unit/ enterprise : 18 Lakh
  • Source of funding (loan/ Self-financed/ credit / other), in case of loan, give details of the bank, sanction date, amount and monthly loan repayment amount - Self Financed
  • Indicate Specific role of STED implementing organization in the launch of unit : Mr. Ajay Patil had an experience but didn't had courage to establish the unit. STED through rigorous training, individual counseling helped him to take calculated risk. It has also helped him to prepare organization structure, marketing & developing it further. Its has also helped him for MSME Registration.
  • Explain S&T intervention involved & quantify the impact/ value addition for the micro-enterprise : STED has helped him to conceptualize his knowledge & skill to practically manufacture it. He has developed simple method to make cast-partial which is much better & economical than implant or even drencher moreover it is odourless as it is made of metal. He became one of rare manufacturer of it in India. Now he is getting orders from neighboring districts also.
